rotting Euphorbia Trigona Rubra African Milk Barrel *

My Euphorbia Trigona Rubra - African Milk Barrel has started to rot.
I have amputated the rotten parts, hopefully it will survive. I have also taken cuttings to plant later on in the year. The rot starts off as a circular spot, then that part of the plant become soggy and limp. Not sure why this is happening, any ideas appreciated. Please leave a comment. 
I will provide updates.

Gymnocalycium oenanthemum Gymnocalycium oenanthemum and Gymnocalycium ragonesei 2018 Hot summer - cactus plants flowering abundantly. The first cactus may be a Gymnocalycium baldianum "dwarf chin cactus", not too sure how to tell the difference.
